WHAT IS KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS?

Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic condition that affects the bones and joints in the knee, gradually worsening over time and leading to pain and reduced mobility. It primarily impacts the knee joint, wearing away the cushioning cartilage, which results in bone-on-bone friction, stiffness, swelling, and discomfort.

While the exact cause of knee osteoarthritis is still unclear, no permanent cure has been found. Current treatments are aimed at managing symptoms and include:
– Exercise
– Weight loss
– Pain relief medications
– Viscosupplement injections
– Braces
– Physical therapy

When these treatments no longer provide relief, many patients turn to total knee replacement surgery as a last resort. However, there is hope for new, innovative treatments on the horizon, signaling a promising shift in managing the condition.

How Does Arthrosamid Work to Treat Knee Pain?

The knee joint contains a thin membrane called the synovium, which houses synovial cells responsible for producing lubricating fluid that allows the joints to move smoothly and acts as a shock absorber. In cases of arthritis, this synovium can become inflamed, leading to a condition called synovitis. Arthrosamid Hydrogel injections help reduce this inflammation by being absorbed into the synovial cells, which then disperse, lowering the transmission of inflammatory signals.

Additionally, the hydrogel acts as a cushion within the knee joint, offering extra support. It typically takes about 6-8 weeks after injection for Arthrosamid to integrate with the synovial cells, at which point patients often experience reduced pain, decreased swelling, and improved joint function.

WHAT EXACTLY IS ARTHROSAMID®?

Arthrosamid® offers an innovative, long-lasting approach to treating knee osteoarthritis, providing a promising alternative to traditional therapies like steroid injections. Using advanced non-biodegradable hydrogel technology, Arthrosamid® consists of 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide and 97.5% water. Once injected into the knee, it cushions the joint, helping to relieve pain and provide safe, sustained relief—all with just a single injection.

ARTHROSAMID® TREATMENT OVERVIEW

Arthrosamid Injection

**How Does Arthrosamid Work to Treat Knee Pain?**

The knee joint is lined by a thin membrane called the synovium, which contains synovial cells responsible for producing lubricating fluid. This fluid allows the joints to glide smoothly and acts as a natural shock absorber. In arthritis, the synovium often becomes inflamed, leading to a condition called synovitis, which causes pain and swelling.

Arthrosamid, a hydrogel injection, works by being absorbed into the synovial cells, dispersing them, and reducing the transmission of inflammatory signals. Additionally, the hydrogel provides cushioning within the knee joint, helping to relieve pressure and discomfort. Typically, it takes about 6-8 weeks after injection for Arthrosamid to fully integrate with the synovial cells, resulting in reduced knee pain, less swelling, and improved joint function.

It is important to follow your clinician post-procedure instructions carefully and attend follow the knee rehabilitation programme.
